Due to the lack of access to clean water, countless people in rural areas suffer every day. A single well can transform the quality of life of an entire village. Poor families gain access to a safe and nearby water source. Women are relieved from the hardship of carrying heavy water from distant places. Children are protected from many diseases such as diarrhea and typhoid. School attendance increases because fewer illnesses mean fewer absences. Worshippers and students in mosques and madrasas can regularly use clean water. The elderly, the sick, and persons with disabilities benefit greatly. Safe water also supports livestock and agricultural activities.
